“Aah,” Ohno sighed. He was being scolded by Matsumoto… again. It wasn’t like he had tried to be late, it had just happened. Actually, it was Nino’s fault. He hadn’t woken him up like usual. And now the imp was smirking away, eyes on his cards like it had nothing to do with him. Ohno looked down at his feet, sulking. “It’s was Nino’s fault though,” he said.

“Oi!” Nino said threateningly from some meters away. “Don’t bring me into this!”

“But it is-” Ohno tried, glaring at Nino.

“Just stop,” Matsumoto growled, rubbing his temples. “No more excuses. Let’s just get the filming over with, ok?” He walked away, stature straight and tall as usual. Ohno nodded even though he knew Matsumoto couldn’t see him.

Aiba sidled over to his side and patted his shoulder comfortingly. “Don’t worry, Riida. Matsujun has just been… off lately.” Ohno attempted a weak smile and frowned, sighing. He knew Aiba was just trying to comfort him, but the words just made him more anxious.

“Yeah, Ohno-san,” Now it was Sho’s turn and Ohno looked into the Keio boy’s eyes, pleading for some comfort or reassurance. “Don’t worry about Matsumoto. He’ll figure out his problems sooner or later.” Ohno stumbled over his feet and looked down. They Keio boy hadn’t been much help, either. “Come, now. If we’re any later it will really set him off.” Sho pulled Aiba out of the room, leaving Ohno alone with Nino.

It’s all his fault, Ohno thought, slouching towards the door. “It’s not my fault,” came a voice in Ohno’s ear, causing him to jump and turn around.

“Oi! Since when were you there?” He asked. And how did you know what I was thinking…?

“Ah gomen gomen,” Nino said, putting his hand in front of his face and bowing slightly. It could’ve been an apology but the boy was smiling behind those chubby fingers of his. Ohno decided not to say anything. “Anyway,” Nino said, regaining his composure and leaning against the door frame. “You’re really worried about Jun, aren’t you?”

Ohno’s eyes widened. How did he know? No, that was a bad question. Nino always knew somehow. There was no point in denying it either, so he mumbled, “Yes.”

Nino chuckled. “I knew it,” he said, eyes glinting. “Don’t worry, Captain,” Nino pursued. Oh, no. Not more comforting. Ohno flinched away. “Jun’s just as confused as you are.” He winked, taking Ohno aback. Now that was something to think about. “This time it is my fault you’re late.” He chuckled and skipped out of the room.

“H-hey!…” Ohno started, tongue-tied with confusion. He followed Nino out the door.

“Sorry, Jun-kun,” Nino whined. “It was my fault he’s late this time..” Nino winked at Ohno and Jun’s eyes narrowed again, also looking at Ohno.

“Let’s just get to work,” he said. Ohno was suspecting venom to be in the youngest’s voice, but it was just sadness. Now how was he going to be able to concentrate on work?

After the filming, Jun seemed to have calmed down a little bit. Ohno thought a lot. He hoped he wasn’t wrong, but he thought Matsumoto may be confused because of Nino’s presence in Ohno’s life. Nino was big, but not in the way Ohno guessed Matsumoto presumed. Ohno wasn’t confused anymore, though. He knew he liked Matsumoto. That’s why he got so upset whenever Matsumoto got pissed at him. And Matsumoto mainly got pissed when Nino was involved. Everyone else knew that he liked Matsumoto, too. The only problem now was Matsumoto. Ohno wanted that man around him and hated it when they were at odds with each other for no good reason. That’s when he came up with his plan.

“Will that be all?” The shop clerk asked. Ohno nodded, bowing in thanks. On his way out the door of the convenience store he peeked inside the bag. Matsumoto liked rainbows, right? He gripped the bag in one hand and pulled out his cell phone, dialing Matsumoto’s number.

“Hello…?” Came a tired voice from the speaker. Ohno stopped in his tracks, heart pounding in his chest.

“M-Matsumoto?” He asked, voice squeaking. He swallowed and urged his legs to continue moving, hoping everything wasn’t in vain. “Matsumoto are you busy right now?”

“No. Riida, is something wrong?” Ohno could hear the concern in Matsumoto’s voice.

“Don’t worry. I gotta go, bye!” And he hung up. A couple minutes later he reached his destination. Switching the bag to his other hand, he knocked on the door. He heard shuffling and then the door opened.

“Hello-“ Ohno stared at Matsumoto’s face, holding his breath, The other man’s face contorted into an expression of surprise and something else that Ohno had never seen before. And then suddenly the face was gone.

Tears pricked Ohno’s eyes. So it had all been in vain, huh. He turned away from the closed door and walked away from the house.

“Wait, Ohno!” Ohno stopped, slumping. Was Matsumoto calling him back? He sniffed and turned. Matsumoto’s head peeked out of the door again, a tiny smile on his lips. “Want to come in?”

Ohno paused before he nodded, but then did so and walked up to the door again. “I brought a gift,” he said, holding up the bag. “Sorry for being late today.” Matsumoto shook his head and stepped back, ushering Ohno into his house. “Pardon the intrusion,” he mumbled, passing Matsumoto and slipping out of his shoes. He then made his way into the other man’s large kitchen.

“What are you doing?” Matsumoto asked lightly. Ohno pulled out a spoon from the silverware drawer and went over to Matsumoto’s table where he was already sitting, head resting in his hands and dark eyes watching Ohno’s every step.

Ohno set the bag on the table and took out the tub of sherbet. He popped open the lid and stuck the spoon in, pushing it over to Matsumoto.

Matsumoto looked from Ohno to the sherbet, a genuine smile appearing on his lips. He pulled out the spoon and stuck it in his mouth. “It’s melted, Ohno,” he sad, eyes gleaming with happiness.

“Sorry,” Ohno said, smiling in return. He stuck his finger in the sherbet and licked it. “So you’re not mad at me?” He asked.

“Of course not!” Jun said, laughing. “Rainbow sherbet cures everything, anyway.”

“Good,” Ohno stood and walked over to stop in front of his junior. “Because I like rainbow sherbet too.” And knowing he probably made no sense he kissed Matsumoto’s wet, sherbety lips, hoping he wasn’t confused anymore.
